H7 Story: "What Could I do to Help Save the Unborn?"
Hello Friends! I'm Storey Nasekos, and I'm thrilled to share a recent journey of faith with you. Ever since I was young, the unborn have held a special place in my heart. However, it was in August of 2022 when I attended Summit Ministries in Manitou Springs, Colorado, that something remarkable happened. During this event, I had the privilege of meeting incredible individuals, including Scott Klusendorf, a pro-life activist. It was during his talk on abortion that I felt God tug on my heartstrings. After the session, I approached Scott and posed a question that had been on my mind for a long time: "What can I do to help save the unborn?" His response was a turning point in my life.
Scott offered me several meaningful ways to contribute, including the opportunity to intern with an organization called Created Equal in Ohio. Eager to make a difference, I applied and was fortunate to be accepted into their program. In June, I packed my bags for the summer and moved to Ohio to embark on this new chapter.
My time in Ohio was transformative. I found myself in a state where I knew no one, living with strangers. It was a season of profound loneliness, but through it all, I learned valuable lessons. First and foremost, I discovered the importance of placing my complete trust in God for all my needs. Second, I realized that even in my loneliest moments, I was never truly alone, for God was with me every step of the way. Lastly, I learned that life is unpredictable. If you had told me at the beginning of June that a summer filled with hostility, confrontations, and challenges would also be the summer of spiritual growth, new friendships, and a deeper connection with Christ, I would have likely laughed in disbelief.
My internship with Created Equal encompassed a variety of activities, including classroom instruction, outreach, and worldview exploration. In the classroom, we delved into the intricate aspects of abortion, from how it operates to its far-reaching consequences (which, I might add, affect everyone). We also studied different worldviews to prepare us for conversations during outreach, as these topics frequently emerged in our interactions. Armed with this knowledge, we not only defended our faith but also engaged in thought-provoking discussions with others about their beliefs.
Outreach was undoubtedly the highlight of my experience. We ventured to downtown areas, college campuses, abortion clinics, and overpasses. At abortion clinics, our goal was to reach out to both expectant mothers and fathers, offering resources and support. Emotionally, it was the most challenging aspect of my internship. Standing on the sidewalk, knowing the heart-wrenching decisions being made inside the clinic, was profoundly difficult. Nevertheless, I understood the importance of being there for these individuals, not only to dissuade them from ending their unborn child's life but also to share the love of Christ.
Downtown and college outreach were my personal favorites. Engaging with people from diverse backgrounds allowed me to change hearts regarding abortion while also sharing the love of Christ. I had the privilege of hearing countless inspiring stories and witnessing God's work in the lives of those I encountered. The experience in Ohio left an indelible mark on my heart, and I am forever grateful for it.
So, what am I up to now, you might wonder? Well, my first order of business was joining FCC and getting involved. I'm excited to share that I've taken this step! Additionally, I'm currently planning and preparing to teach a twelve-week class focused on abortion and how to articulate and defend our faith on this subject when the need arises. I'm enthusiastic about partnering with FCC and launching this class in the coming months. That's the latest chapter in my journey, and I'm eager to see where God leads me next!
