H7 Story: Genuine Connections

One of the most valuable and enduring aspects of First Christian Church is the impact of its Life Groups. These small communities are a source of support and growth for many over the years. One of the groups that has been together the longest is the Schubert Life Group.

Led by the dynamic duo of Mike and Amanda Schubert, this Life Group has been a beacon of light for over a decade. Their unwavering commitment to fostering genuine connections and providing a safe space for spiritual growth has made them an integral part of the church community.

What sets the Schubert Life Group apart is not only their longevity but also their commitment to multiply themselves. They have not simply been content with being a close-knit group; they have taken it upon themselves to expand their impact by helping form several new Life Groups. Through their leadership and guidance, they have empowered others to step up and create their own nurturing communities within the church.

By reproducing themselves, they have multiplied the love, care, and discipleship that lie at the heart of Life Groups.

A longtime member in the group, Dagny Wakefield shared, "Scott and I have been part of the Schubert life group for a long time–more than 10 years. It's hard to remember not being part of this group. Honestly, it has been such a big part of our time here.  Mike and Amanda have generously hosted a Life Group in their home almost as long as they have been part of FCC and what a gift it has been. Notably, many of the folks on staff have come through this group and that's a special gift too–to minister to the ministers. The Schuberts have a way about them that allows even people who serve the church full time to connect, be vulnerable, and feel loved and seen. Mike is diligent to lead our often-rowdy, easily distracted group. Amanda's welcoming spirit makes even the most spent feel at ease. Plus, we've always had a full house of kids - and they haven't been intimidated by that! Mostly though, Mike and Amanda's infectious, transparent, and genuine love for Jesus and their family makes it easy to be with them. I am so thankful they show up faithfully week after week, year after year - offering their home, great cooking, and time in the Word to our LG."

In a world where isolation and disconnection seem to be the norm, the Schubert Life Group serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of authentic relationships and intentional community. They embody the spirit of unity and fellowship that Jesus Himself exemplified during His time on earth.

If you have not yet Connected in a Life Group and begun building this genuine community, we highly recommend it!
