H7 Story: Family Restoration

H7 Story: Family Restoration

Written by Nilla Kemmann
Before coming to re:gen and FCC, Bill and Bonita couldn’t see why their family was the way it was. Distanced from their son and struggling in their marriage, there was a desire within the family for things to be right.

This is where (not when) the Creator of families comes in. We’re happy to share that for the Colley’s: it’s all starting to change! The communities of FCC and re:gen are enabling Bill and Bonita to involve God in the challenges they face in family restoration. And it’s working!!

First, to heal their marriage. After covid, the Colley’s wanted to find a church to call home, finding FCC through the internet.
“We went and we couldn’t believe what we felt there,”
Bonita shared,
“I’m just in awe of the love! Most churches talk about it but don’t do anything about it…Scott’s preaching is straight from the Bible and you can’t say that it’s not. It’s either you take it or you don’t.”
The Colley’s continued to attend and quickly got involved in serving and in the programs offered by FCC.
Bill’s journey, at this point, began to look more and more like restoring trust in others around him—even in the Body of Christ, the Church!
“The leadership in the church has just been awesome and providing these programs—it’s helping us be one body. Even though we have multiple locations and multiple pastors […] the whole thing has come together.”
One of these programs happens to be re:gen. This is where God brought them next. It became key to restoring their family. After completing a year’s worth of discipleship through this program, Bonita and Bill became spiritual leaders in their family. They now address their individual sins through a loving relationship with Christ. In Bill’s words
“re:gen’s really helped me to see who God is, who I am, and really who God wants me to be.”
Bonita now has a formal pattern for recovery from sin. Bill now lives with restored trust in both the leaders and the younger generation around him.

But did God stop with their family there? Hardly! Their son started attending the nearest re:gen he could find (even though it was 50 minutes away!). Though once distanced from his parents, he was impressed by their change, growth, and healing. We’re happy to share that communication is actively being restored all because God is working!

We all know the reality about families—they’re never perfect. Living in this broken world where nothing is ever quite right or quite enough, we get used to it. Why should we have hope for more? But the Creator of families is working in the Colleys’. He knows our desire and hopes for our families, and He has the power to create blessings from brokenness and intimacy from a distance.
