H7 Story: How to Interpret Scripture
If you want to study God’s Word deeply or communicate it faithfully, whether for yourself, or as a small group leader, Sunday School teacher, or Pastor, we want to encourage you to join us October 31-November 1 at Longview Ranch in Mosheim, TN for the In Awe of Your Words Workshop. This highly interactive workshop—with examples, whiteboard discussion, Q&A, and small group exercises—will give you the basic tools for studying combined with the power and freedom of teaching the text and trusting its work.
As part of our heart for developing and deploying well-prepared ministry leaders and disciplemakers, our Lead Pastor, Scott Wakefield, has been coaxed into codifying his preaching preparation process. This was intentionally designed to help FCCers, churches, current and aspiring church leaders, and anyone wanting to learn how to study God’s Word deeply to discover the power and freedom of teaching and trusting the text to do the work!
The In Awe of Your Words Workshop is not just an event for preachers and preaching.
Though the methods described are derived directly from the preaching process, they apply to anyone who wants to study the Bible better. As noted above, this event is for anyone who wants to study God‘s Word deeply or communicate it faithfully. You don’t have to be a Leader of any sort to join us! Just your desire to study the word of God is enough.
FCC member Volker Kemmann attended last year’s Conference and shared that one of the things he took away was an increased respect for First Christian’s pastoral leadership. “I learned how they focus on the context and take a structured and prayerful approach to find the meaning of a passage. This protects against interpretations following a presupposition.”
Abraham Milam also attended last year. He remarked, “Through the In Awe of Your Words Workshop, I’ve gained a richer understanding of how to interpret Scripture. I’ve come to see that every word, inspired by God, is intentionally placed and full of meaning.”
Beth Anne Liebert spoke about how encouraged she was that women were invited, and so many people of different ages were present. “There were so many young people wanting to know how to study God’s Word!” She remarked and then concluded by saying, “I gained a greater appreciation for the hard work that Scott and the pastors put into preparing for sermons. It’s not easy to properly exegete (interpret) Scripture!”
We hope that you will consider joining us for our 2025 In Awe of Your Words Workshop. If you would like more information, please click here.
