H7: Addison Juell's Story

H7 Story: Addison Juell's Story

Addison grew up in Washington state and moved to Greene County just over a year ago. For most of her teenage and young adult years, life felt chaotic, unsafe, and marked by depression and anxiety. Looking for meaning and peace, she turned to therapy, relationships, and eventually to new age spirituality—journaling, tarot cards, and what felt like communication with spirits. At first, these things seemed to offer healing and control, but over time, they led her deeper into darkness and fear.

When Addison moved to Greeneville, that darkness grew heavier. She describes a constant pull toward isolation, always searching for safety, but never finding it. But God was already at work. When Addison was given her great-grandmother’s Bible, it awakened a curiosity for truth she hadn’t felt before. For the first time, she opened its pages and found herself wanting to understand it. That moment became the beginning of God drawing her to Himself. Soon after, Addison visited the Christian bookstore, where Sonya Higgs gently pointed her to Jesus and invited her to church.

The following weeks brought an intense spiritual battle, the darkest season of her life. “Everything I tried before didn’t work,” Addison remembers. “I realized Jesus was all I had left.” Since then, she has come to realize more fully that He isn’t just what was left—He is the only way.

Now, Addison describes her life as completely different. Once afraid of tomorrow, she now rests in God’s promises: “No matter what happens, I’m not worried—because the safest place I can be is close to Jesus.” The girl who once went out of her way to avoid people is now surrounded by Christian community, mentors, and friends who remind her of God’s love and truth.

Her favorite verses are Matthew 6:33–34: “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.”

Addison’s story is a reminder that no amount of self-healing or searching can satisfy. Only Jesus can rescue us from the darkness of our sin, provide true safety, and give us the love we’ve been seeking all along.
