H7 Story: Mike Luzadder/Campus House
Saying goodbye to Mike Luzadder
Campus House (or the Christian Student Fellowship) is a campus ministry at ETSU that exists to create community for college students. FCC (and 41 other regional churches) have supported the Campus House at ETSU for many years. After serving as Lead Campus Minister for 26 years, Mike Luzadder will be stepping away at the end of this school year. We wanted to take a moment to pay tribute to Mike while also sharing a little about what Campus House is.
Campus House:
While attending the University of Eastern Illinois, Mike found himself sliding away from Christianity. He met some peers that loved Jesus, who were real and vulnerable and it helped strengthen his faith. That encounter inspired him to help college students strengthen their faith and that began his ministry of serving in Campus ministry. As Campus Minister, he has been able to be on campus, interacting in the lives of students on a daily basis.
Throughout the years, Mike and the staff at the Campus House have developed a friendly relationship with ETSU. Even though the Campus House is across the street from the University, Mike and the team are considered a student organization when they are on campus. For over 50 years, the Campus House has developed a cordial relationship with the University. It is all with the intent of demonstrating a Christian love as they help students find and follow Jesus.
When Scott interviewed Mike on a Coffee Convo a few years ago, he shared how much he loved what he got to do every week when he explained, “I get to serve God on a Campus and hang out with students from all over the world. It’s like working in youth ministry, but with college students.”
FCC’s Worship Leader, Kris Carlson, currently serves as one of the 21 board members for the Campus House. Kris started attending the Campus House during his freshman year at ETSU, playing the guitar during their worship services. "As a graduate of ETSU, I was super involved with the Christian Student Fellowship there during my years in college,” Kris explained. “Mike Luzadder was the Lead Campus Minister there during my time.” He went on to explain that Mike was a great influence on him during a particularly formative period of his life. “He has a wonderful gift and love for discipling young people, and I am one of many his influence and legacy have impacted for the good of the Kingdom of God! He led by example and showed me what it truly means to live in Christian community. For this, I am grateful. Even though I’ve been out of college for 15 years, Mike has continued to be a wonderful mentor and friend. He always has time for his students and alumni alike.”
The new campus minister of the Campus House is Andrew Lawhead, who is originally from Arizona and came to Christ through a campus ministry. He has served on staff since January 2025 and became the new campus minister in April 2025. The ministry also staffs an associate campus minister and an international student minister, with Andrew leading the entire ministry.
Thank you, Mike, for everything you have done in the ETSU community for all of these years. May God bless you as you head into a new direction!
