H7 Story: FCC Is #ForGreene

Throughout the year, many opportunities arise for outreach in Greene County. Many of these opportunities arise from a direct effort on our part to help support and stand alongside the schools that are helping teach our children.

These events are often fairly small and are usually spearheaded by one of the Campus Pastors or the Tech Team. However, even if small in scope, volunteers are always needed. We understand that this takes time away from other things in your life, but we wanted to share how much of a difference you are helping to make. #forgreene

Volunteering needs are especially numerous during the Christmas holiday season and right now, at the end of the school year! None of these events would be possible without the everyday faithful (and sometimes even seemingly boring) service of our congregation who step in to volunteer and bring these ideas into fruition!

Please keep reading to get just a small taste of some of the serving opportunities that our FCC’ers have stepped in to help with, just in the past month, in order to show Greene County that we are #forgreene!

South Greene School Outreach:

  • Tech Support at SGMS and SGHS Graduations: On May 14, our Tech Team was able to use our portable setup to provide tech for the South Greene High School awards ceremony. We repeated this help for the Middle School graduation held that same evening. These events were fairly simple in scope but still meant a lot to the school and surrounding community.

  • Graduation Parking Assistance: Nine volunteers from four different FCC South Greene Life Groups helped with parking at the South Greene High School graduation on May 16. Teddy Lawing, lead Student Resource Officer at SGHS prepared the volunteers by telling them that the last few years have been “total chaos.” With around 1,000 people attending and the parking already limited, parking had been a nightmare. But thanks to the help from our volunteers, Teddy was so relieved to have a much smoother situation this year. Volunteer Tim Fuller even brought his golf cart and helped transport people to the football field where the graduation ceremony was being held. What an incredible way to be #forgreene!

  • Teacher’s Breakfast: Every year, we have the opportunity to appreciate the teachers with a big breakfast on their last day of the school year. South Greene volunteers make and serve the breakfast and get a chance to get to know the teachers and thank them for their hard work. Each teacher was also presented with a small gift from FCC.
Greeneville Outreach:

  • Book Bus Summit: FCC was able to host this Summit at our Greeneville campus on April 19. School representatives came from many surrounding counties to discuss best practices regarding how they run library buses for their students. These buses play a monumental role in helping to promote literacy throughout Tennessee.
  • Teacher Appreciation Gift: Every teacher at Greeneville High School (around 100!) received a small succulent and encouraging note on May 8 to close out their school year. A huge thank you to all our volunteers for helping support our local teachers in this way.
  • End-of-Semester Meal: On May 23, FCC volunteers helped create a terrific BBQ lunch. Volunteers then stepped in again to serve it to Greeneville’s high school teachers as an encouragement for their hard work this semester.
Afton Outreach:

  • Chuckey-Doak HS & MS Band Concert: An Afton Life Group served refreshments to the students and their families for this combined school event. This was held on May 6.
  • Chuckey-Doak HS & MS & South Greene HS Chorus Concert: On May 9th, a different Afton Life Group served refreshments to the students and their families for this combined school event.
  • Chuckey-Doak Graduate Lunch: This lunch has become a yearly tradition. A big group of amazing volunteers prep for days to pull off an amazing lunch to celebrate the graduates. This year the lunch was held on May 10.
  • Chuckey-Doak High School Graduation: CDHS had to move graduation inside due to rain, and our tech team had the opportunity to run tech for the event! Not only did they provide sound for the podium, band, and choir, but they also positioned cameras for IMAG (Image Magnification) on the gym jumbotron. This feed then ran into the hallways and auditorium for overflow, allowing guests to experience the event in real time even after every seat in the gym (and all standing room) was full. Our tech group also live streamed the event online for family members unable to attend in person. This tech help was a huge benefit to the school and we have received SO MUCH positive feedback and gratitude from both school staff and community members.

Pillar organized the entire parking plan for the graduation, which sounds simple enough, but with around 1,200 attendees and limited parking, this proved to be quite a feat. Our young adults met beforehand to come up with a plan and positioned volunteers across the campus to help facilitate, greet, and assist guests.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered, and let Greene County know that we are for Greene because God is for Greene!
