H7 Story: #ForGreene

#ForGreene

We are so close to launching our 3rd campus at South Greene High School. However, before we even officially launch, we think it is incredibly important that the community involved with South Greene knows that we are for them because God is for them. Our goal as a church is that these schools feel that the scales are always tipped in their favor. We want them to know that having us meeting at their school on the weekends means good and helpful things for the greater school community.

The concession stand at South Greene was in great need of repairs when FCC made the decision to launch a 3rd campus there. There was an old industrial-style sink that was rusting badly. The shelving was quite decrepit and coming close to falling apart. There actually wasn’t any countertop space to speak of and very little storage. We want to use that area to serve coffee in our services so fixing up the concession stand would help secure a win for us and a win for the school community.

Enter Dave and Chris June. Married and retired, Dave is a painter and has had a few of his paintings on display throughout various places in Greeneville. They have been attending the Greeneville campus and are committed to the South Greene Campus. Dave and Chris teamed up with Volker Kemmann, another FCC member, to install cabinetry, countertops, and a new sink with an awesome faucet. They also repaired a drain that was leaking.

Bob Radank will be the new Campus Minister at the South Greene Campus. Developing a relationship with leadership at South Greene is incredibly important, and this one of many ways that have created positivity between First Christian Church and those in leadership at South Greene. As with many of the other projects we have done at South Greene, Bob said the response to the improvements was incredibly positive. The South Greene Booster Club President, who uses that area every week to feed the football team, loved what they did. “It has helped me develop a wonderful relationship with her and the SG Booster Club!” Bob explained. One faculty member said that it was so wonderful that a church would openhandedly do this kind of work for the school. The principal and assistant principal also shared their gratefulness and appreciation for all the FCC has done.

“I am so thankful for the work of the June and Kemmann families,” Bob shared. “And what was even more awesome is that they had an opportunity to get to know several folks at South Greene High School while they were working on it.”
