Tell the Story: People Behind the Scenes
Last week brought over a hundred children to our Greeneville FCC campus for our first annual Splash camp. We had so many wonderful people offer to be present during Splash to help oversee the success of the camp, and ensure that kids had fun and stayed safe.
Anyone walking in their child would have been greeted by multiple volunteers helping with registration, leading small groups, and floaters making sure every possible need was met. What they would not have seen, however, were the dozens of folks behind the scenes who served the volunteers. There were people who were unable to be present each and every day, due to work or being out of town, but they found other ways to serve on the team.
Each day, a different Life Group worked together to donate snacks and drinks for the volunteers. Some were able to shop for the items, some donated money towards the cause, and others showed up to set it all up. These Life Groups were a huge contribution to SPLASH’s success. Because of their efforts, those helping with Splash could focus on the needs of others without being concerned about packing a lunch or grabbing breakfast on their way out the door.
One such Life Group leader, Tammy Bowlin, said it was such a pleasure to be able to help in that capacity. “Our Life Group was so generous that buying the food was easy,” she said. "But the volunteers who helped with the kids are the real heroes.”
It’s these people behind the scenes that made it possible for the VBS volunteers to disciple the next generation. “For the body does not consist of one member but of many… you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:14, 27
