Elders Letter: Mar 2022

Dear Church Family,

Rocket launches are exciting! Even though rockets have been launched for decades, people still gather to watch as one lifts into the sky propelled with the bright fire and loud roar of the powerful engines. Although on-lookers may have gathered hours prior to launch to witness the event, for those involved, the launch is a culmination of years of planning and hard work.

As a church, we can relate. The launch of our Afton campus just 3 years ago was the culmination of years of planning and preparation. It may have seemed effortless to those outside the church, but we know that it took the commitment of the entire body to make it successful.

Now, as we prepare for our upcoming launch this fall of our South Greene campus at South Greene High School, all of us are charged with rolling up our sleeves as we work together to make this launch successful. “Wait. All of us? What if I’m not one of the ones going to the new campus?” Yes, all of us. Each of us has a role to play whether on the South Greene launch team or the relaunch teams at our Afton and Greeneville campuses. Whether as a “goer” or a “sender,” launches are only successful when everyone responds to the call of the mission with his or her own talents and abilities!

“So what can I do?” Glad you asked! From gathering launch teams, to purchasing equipment, to serving in outreach events, to inviting your family and friends, we have many things that need to happen between now and our fall launch. But our first step is to meet together as a church to discuss the mission and lay out before you what needs to happen, by whom, and when, so please make every effort to be at our Multisite Vision Night and Q & A on Sun, Mar 27, 2022, from 6:30-7:30p at the Greeneville Campus. We’ll give some history, recount outreach already done at South Greene High School, and outline our overall vision for multisite, launch timeline, action steps, associated costs, and what’s involved in “relaunching” existing campuses. We will also have time to ask and answer questions and find how every one of us can step into the call of the mission laid out before us.

We hope you’ll join us to see how God has graciously positioned us to steward our resources for the sake of the gospel in Greene County! This call to reach our community began two millennia ago when Jesus commanded His disciples to be witnesses to both their local community and abroad in Acts 1:8. Think about that–in our own way and time we are called to be a part of a mission now that the church has been undertaking for ages. That should humble us as we realize that being a part of the mission is a privilege not to be taken lightly.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Sun, Mar 27, at 6:30-7:30p at our Greeneville campus!

Your friends and coworkers in ministry,

Chuck Bowlin, Carl DelSorbo, John Hamilton, Mark Liebert, and Scott Wakefield
