Scott's Thoughts: Sun, Aug 22, 2021

Just a short touch-up this week. Promise. That way you can catch up on last week’s not-exactly-short ST.

New Website: fccgreene.org! – Again, if you didn’t read through our new site last week, you need to this week because we’re going to begin promoting it online, to help awaken Google and Greene County to our new site/domain. See last week’s ST for more explanation, but in basic terms, it’s meant to be a vision-refresher for us. It’s important for you, even veteran FCCers, to read through.

“Volunteering in Kids Min is Saying ‘Yes!’” – Charity said this and a few other such helpful things in last week’s Kids Min Vols Fall Kick-Off Mtg.
  • “Kids need a new kind of leader who will keep showing up.”
  • “People who show up and serve consistently make more of a difference than those who do not.”
  • “When you see how much time you have left, you focus on the time you have now.”
I hear a lot of people who talk a good game about positively influencing their community. It’s lovely to see so many here who are learning the value of actually showing up to gain and wield that influence. When you help to welcome families, care for kids, and teach them about Jesus, it is saying yes to God’s work in you. You are saying yes to influencing kids and families. You are saying yes to our mission of producing producers who build and strengthen a community for the long-term. Thank you! (And we need more of you. Let us know you’re interested on the Connect Card, available on "Home" on the app.)

Daniel Series & Bible Study Books – Available now in The Hub for $10 each. We’re going to be using this Bible Study for the entire 13-week series on Daniel, which starts Sun, Sep 5, so don’t miss out! The extra couple bucks help us support handing out free books to our Pillar Young Adults!

Pillar Young Adults Launches this Tue, Aug 24, at 7p, at our Greeneville Campus! – Please encourage David, pray with us, go follow their socials, and learn more about the name and plans by going to fccgreene.org/ya.

Mon Morning Missives, Brown Bags & Bibles, and Coffee Convos – Sorry, but due to sickness we’re out again this week for at least BB&B and CC. That'll give you time to catch up on our 57-part series on the "Ordo Salutis" in BB&B! 3M will happen like normal, for the throngs of dozens, (in this case 2, at most.)

Next Steps Hopefully Beginning as Soon as (Along With Couple Other Sun Morn Changes) Early Sept – Fingers crossed, sickness avoided, and prayers answered, we're actually, maybe, perhaps going to be closing in on launch of NS. In our fairly complex multisite structure, implementing new processes doesn’t (and shouldn’t) easily happen, and we’re almost there with our new NS strategy, but we need to account for a couple Sunday Morning integration pieces first.

“Great Questions Answered” – Click here for today’s GQA post: “Is Samesex Marriage Biblical?” As mentioned last week, GQA is intended to become a long-term repository of written biblical/theological resources for you. They’ll show up on the Pulse Tab, under “Latest News”, on the app. When we get enough GQAs, it will become its own handy link/pic on the Pulse Tab.

14-Minute Healing Song Set Worth A Listen – A smidge random and unlike normal ST fare, but I’ve recently rediscovered my old love for the stripped-down acoustic folksy-with-a-smidge-of-bluegrass genre through a husband-wife duo from North Carolina named “Watchhouse” (formerly “Mandolin Orange”. You may need to search “Mandolin Orange” to come up with some good stuff.) I listened over and over and over–this is good music, y’all. Y’know when you come across something of excellence created by masters wholeheartedly dedicated to their craft and the experience forces you to reconsider how you’ve been spending your time? These folks make me want to be a better preacher, y’all. So make yourself some good coffee*, put on some decent active noise cancelling headphones or earbuds**, sink into a good leather chair, and enjoy this 3-song set on your phone. They’re. So. Good. Hint for the first song, “Golden Embers”: it’s about the death of his mother. For a good healing cry, watch the video and recall a lost loved one or prep yourself for one you know is coming in order to preemptively practice some gratitude for loving relationships you already enjoy. There are few things as sad as gratitude missed that people around you need and that reveals our preoccupations. *”Good coffee” is available, locally and freshly roasted, at nonprofit Catalyst Coffee Company. Maybe you’ve heard of it? We started it over 8 years ago and it gives away 100% of profits to other local nonprofits and people already doing good work. So buy fresh whole bean, grind to brew (w burr grinders, not blade), and use a Chemex/Pourover, Aeropress, or French Press, (preferably Aeropress, which is hard to mess up.) You’re welcome. **Seriously, like few/many (couldn’t make up my mind) things in life, good ANC phones/buds are worth it.
