Scott  Wakefield

Elder/Lead Pastor

Scott has been in local church ministry since 1996 and served churches in Ohio and Illinois before coming to God’s Country in March 2003. His B.A. is in Bible/Theology/Soccer at Wheaton College (1995, Go Thunder!) and he has done graduate M.Div. studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Emmanuel Christian Seminary, and Covenant Baptist Theological Seminary.

He loves to connect people to Christ through a local church that equips them to grow through God's Word to become who He made them to be. This means helping to love, lead, and feed the flock to carry out Christ’s call in the Great Commission to preach the gospel and make disciple makers. Scott likes to sing, play a few instruments, watch soccer (Spanish Barça “tiki taka” is how it should be played), continually reengineer his daily systems and rhythms into his backpack, read/watch/listen to way more podcasts and nerdy books than time allows, and working while walking around our Greeneville campus Worship Center or downtown Greeneville every morning with his head buried in his phone (mostly reading—promise. Feel free to honk as you drive by, though he usually has in active noise cancelling earbuds.) If you're wanting to know more about his personal doctrinal/theological commitments, see here, at the bottom of fccgreene.org/beliefs.

Scott and his wife, Dagny, met at Wheaton, have been married since 1997, and have three children, Sophia, Alden, and Emery. (Btw, Dagny’s name is pronounced “DAHG-knee,” with the stress on the first syllable and with a soft “a,” as in “father.”) She is a superstar Mom, homemaker, full-time Pediatric Social Worker at nearby Niswonger Children's Hospital, and serves in Kids Min and helping to care well for our people and leaders. To get to know her, Scott interviews her in this Coffee Convo.
