H7 Story: I Want To Be Born Again

In this Tell the Story interview, Abraham Milam shares how God drew him to Himself during the pandemic in an unexpected way — through social media. Growing up nominally Roman Catholic with little exposure to Scripture, Abraham spent much of his time immersed in sports, video games, and online content. As Christian videos began appearing in his feed, he initially dismissed them, but over time, the Word of God began to convict him of sin and awaken deeper questions. When he started reading the Bible for himself, John 3 became a turning point. Jesus’ words about being “born again” deeply unsettled him, stirring both fear and a longing for eternal life that led him to cry out to God for salvation.

Without in-person community during lockdown, Abraham binge-listened to sermons — especially Billy Graham, along with teachers like John MacArthur, R.C. Sproul, and Paul Washer — as the Lord steadily clarified the gospel in his heart. After coming to faith, he boldly shared the truth with his family, explaining that salvation is through Christ alone, not religious tradition or personal merit. By God’s grace, his entire family eventually came to faith and were baptized together, marking a powerful testimony of the gospel’s transforming work.

Now, Abraham describes the Christian life as a daily denial of self and an ongoing “battlefield of the mind,” learning to take thoughts captive and filter fears through the truth of God’s Word. He emphasizes that following Christ is not easy and not “sunshine and rainbows,” but no season is wasted in God’s providence. Trials, discipline, and growth are all part of the Lord shaping His children. His encouragement to others is to trust that God is at work — even in hardship — and to pursue genuine biblical community, where faith can be strengthened and lived out together.
