H7 Story: Missionary Martin Sanders

Written by Joy Elliott
Long time FCC Missionary, Martin Sanders, has been faithfully serving the Lord in his native country of Colombia for over 30 years. He teaches in a Christian school, travels to churches without pastors by providing pulpit supply, and helps church planters throughout central and southern Colombia.

In the latest update from Martin Sanders, he highlighted some of the victories of 2022 and he looked ahead at some of the challenges for 2023.

There are a few of the things the Lord has done through Martin's ministry in 2022:

  • Martin was able to organize a much-needed ladies’ fellowship. In the Christian Church in Puerto Lopez, he helped train Carlos Romero, a deacon in the church, and helped with much needed repairs on the building. His ministry extends to many churches, and he was able to help in leadership development in those areas.

  • Another exciting thing he did was to help get the school year started in the Christian school in Peniel. Starting in February of this year, he has been teaching Philosophy and Bible for several grades.

These are just a few of the exciting things that the Lord has done through Martin’s ministry in 2022, and it is awesome that FCC has been able to have a small part in this ministry.

In this coming year, Martin faces some challenges ahead, and we, as a church family, can be in earnest prayer for these things:

  • Pray for the government - Colombia is riddled with turmoil from what has become a Communist regime by default.  This makes ministry in Colombia very hard, and, at times, dangerous.
  • Pray for continued effects of COVID - Martin continues to encounter challenges in teaching virtually as COVID restrictions in some areas have not been lifted.
  • Pray for Martin’s schedule and the schools where he ministers - He hopes to get his itinerant preaching schedule figured out and gradually re-open schools and institutions where he ministers. He is working hard on curriculum development in some of these schools as well.
  • Pray for church planters - Martin is training a family who desires to pursue God and plant churches in Northern and Southern Colombia.

Martin is thankful for the part First Christian Church has in his ministry. To send him a note of encouragement and let him know we are praying for him, you can email him at musikafe@icloud.com.
