H7 Story: Doer of the Word

James 1:22–25 reminds us to be “doers of the word, and not hearers only.” Recently, two FCC students were recognized by their classmates with the “Doer of the Word” award at their respective high schools—an honor voted on by fellow students. That makes this recognition especially meaningful. These young women were not simply noticed by church leaders or Christian friends, but also by high school peers who saw how they consistently lived out their faith in everyday life.

The first recipient was Greeneville High School graduate Brenna Widmaier.

“Brenna Widmaier’s recognition with the Doer of the Word Award reflects the Christlike character and servant-hearted leadership others have seen in her throughout her high school years,” Campus Pastor Tommy Staggs shared. “Brenna has grown up at FCC, and it has been a joy to watch her mature into a young woman with a sincere passion for the Lord and a desire to faithfully serve others.”

Whether serving in student ministry leadership or leading on the worship team at Afton, Brenna consistently points others toward Christ through both her words and actions.
The second recipient was Chuckey-Doak High School graduate Ava Carter.

Tommy shared that seeing Ava receive the Doer of the Word Award is especially meaningful because it reflects something far deeper than achievement—it reflects genuine Christian character. “As Ava has become involved in FCC’s student ministry throughout high school, it has been encouraging to watch her grow in faith, become deeply engaged in her small group, and increasingly shine as a light to those around her.”

He added that the Christ-centered encouragement surrounding Ava throughout the years makes this recognition even more special. “This award celebrates not only academic success, but the kind of Christlike example and influence that leaves a lasting impact on others.”

In a culture where faithfully following Christ can often make students stand out, it is encouraging to see Brenna and Ava recognized by the very people they spend their days around. Their lives are a powerful reminder that quiet faithfulness, integrity, kindness, and Christlike character do not go unnoticed.

Congratulations to both Brenna and Ava on this incredible honor. Their lives beautifully reflect what it means to not only hear God’s Word, but to faithfully live it out.
