H7: The Joy of Serving Together
Every year at our annual Vision Bash (formerly Team Bash), Lead Pastor Scott Wakefield has the privilege of handing out Team Code Awards in the form of a game ball to FCC members who embody one of our 7 Team Code Maxims. Each ball is signed by our elders and staff and includes 1 Peter 4:10: “Use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.” Beneath it are the words: “Thank you for being a faithful steward.”
Scott often reminds us why we do this. As he puts it, “Every Spirit-empowered and God-glorifying thing we do as the body of Christ—every greeting, every diaper changed, every wire coiled, every prayer whispered—is another echo of the grace of God that proves His love and points to heaven.” And ultimately, he reminds us, the real applause belongs to Christ, who first served us. “Every humble act done in His name becomes part of His unfolding story of redemption—our shared history of grace.”
At this past November’s Vision Bash, Josh Ditto received the first game ball. Josh faithfully serves week in and week out at the South Greene campus, joyfully helping with setup and cleanup. He’s intentional in encouraging those around him and is deeply missed whenever he isn’t there, which is rare.
Josh truly embodies what we mean by the fellowship of mutual surrender to the mission. He loves serving alongside others and plays a vital role in making Sundays happen, often through dozens of behind-the-scenes tasks that go unnoticed but are essential.
Guest Team Director Kendra Hinkle shared, “One thing that stands out to me about Josh is how much he genuinely enjoys serving alongside his friends each Sunday. He does dozens of behind-the-scenes tasks that most people never notice, but for Josh, it isn’t just about getting the job done—it’s a joyful opportunity to work shoulder-to-shoulder with people he cares about while serving the Kingdom. What might look like ordinary, everyday faithfulness from the outside is something Josh truly delights in. In fact, as his birthday was approaching, he mentioned how thankful he was that he would get to spend it doing what he loves—hanging ‘scuba’ (curtains) in the halls of SGHS again with the team.”
